AGH Neuroscience Center of Excellence

Allegheny General Hospital received the 2006 Neuroscience Center of Excellence Designation from NeuroSource in a recent survey of the nation’s leading hospitals for the treatment and study of neurological diseases. The Center of Excellence designation was awarded to less than half of the 150 hospitals evaluated for the 2006 report and is the only comprehensive analysis of hospital-based neuroscience programs in the United Sates. Stroke Center Certification

Allegheny General Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center has been accredited as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) — a distinction shared by just 11 other hospitals in Pennsylvania and about 250 nationwide. JCAHO’s Gold Seal of Approval™ is bestowed to medical centers that are uniquely capable of providing the most advanced and effective treatment for patients who suffer from stroke. The American Stroke Association also recognized AGH’s Stroke Center with “Get With The Guidelines” (GWTG) Participating Hospital Status. The premier hospital-based quality improvement program for the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, GWTG helps ensure continuous quality improvement of acute stroke treatment and ischemic stroke prevention, and focuses on care team protocols to ensure that patients are treated and discharged appropriately.

Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence

Allegheny General Hospital’s (AGH) Bariatric Surgery program has been named a Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). The ASBS designation identifies surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery. To earn an ASBS Center of Excellence designation, AGH underwent a series of site inspections during which all aspects of the bariatric surgery program were examined and data on patient’s health outcomes was assessed.

Consumer Choice Award

Allegheny General Hospital has been consistently recognized as a recipient of the National Research Corporation’s (NRC) Consumer Choice Award for Western Pennsylvania. AGH has received the Consumer Choice Award in eight of the past 10 years—more often than any other hospital in the region. Data compiled for the Consumer Choice Award is pulled from the NRC’s Healthcare Market Guide Study, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive analysis of consumer satisfaction with the health-care industry. Conducted annually to determine consumer assessments of health plans, personal physicians, local hospitals and health-care systems, the study is based on response to a direct mail questionnaire. More than 200,000 households representing approximately 400,000 covered lives are represented in the study and more than 3,000 U.S. hospitals are evaluated.
