Hometown:

Paola, KS

Education:

St. Louis College of Pharmacy

PGY1 Pharmacy, Practice Residency, The University of Kansas Hospital

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

I was interested in the diversity of the program with an emphasis in solid tumors as well as experiences in hematological malignancies and transplant.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

Currently, I would want to be a clinical specialist in oncology, and possibly teach at a college of pharmacy.

Mike D. Corpman, Pharm.D.

PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Resident

Email:  mcorpman@wpahs.org

Hometown:

Mineral City, OH

Education:

Ohio Northern University

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

Allegheny General Hospital was an appealing choice for a residency for me because of its large clinical pharmacy department and wide variety of learning opportunities available.  I also liked the fact that the residency program was well established with years of experience.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

My current interests are in critical care and cardiology.  I hope to obtain a clinical position or clinical specialist position.  I am entertaining the idea of a PGY2 specialty residency in one of those two areas, but am currently undecided.

Selma Du, Pharm.D.

Email:  sdu@wpahs.org

Hometown:

Fairfax, Virginia

Education:

University of Maryland

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

I chose Allegheny General Hospital because of its wide variety of opportunities in many practice areas, and the knowledgeable preceptors that are available.  I’ve never been to Pittsburgh, so I’m excited to see what the city has to offer.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

I have a few areas of interest and I hope to narrow them down this year.

Nicole Hahn, Pharm.D.

PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Resident

Email:  nhahn@wpahs.org

Hometown:

Catasauqua, PA

Education:

Wilkes University

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

I chose AGH because of the variety of core and elective rotations offered, the large number of clinical specialty pharmacists, and the fact that it is a large teaching institution.  Pittsburgh is a city I had never been to before, but I wanted to venture outside of my hometown area while still being only a reasonable car ride away.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

Currently my future plans are undecided, but I am hoping the PGY1 program will help me identify a specialty area I will want to pursue.

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

I completed my PGY1 residency here and really enjoyed the program and preceptors. This program has a variety of critical care experiences available here to allow me to grow as an independent practitioner.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

Upon completion of my PGY2 residency I look forward to becoming a Critical Care Pharmacy Specialist at a large academic hospital.

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

After completing pharmacy school I wanted to move to a new city and I thought Pittsburgh would be a fun place to live!  AGH offers a well-rounded program in a friendly learning enviornment, and I was interested in the size of this residency program.

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

I am interested in critical care and infectious diseases but my future plans are undecided.

Valerie Vuylsteke, Pharm.D.

PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Resident

Email:  vvuylste@wpahs.org

Hometown:

Springfield, IL

Education:

Bachelor of Science, Illinois Wesleyan UniversityPharm.D.

University of Illinois-Chicago College of Pharmacy

Why AGH/Pittsburgh:

As I neared completion of my pharmacy education, I knew that I wanted to leave Illinois (for the time being) and experience pharmacy practice in a different region of the country.  Allegheny General Hospital offered several types of clinical experiences that I did not have available to me while on rotations in Chicago.  The variety of electives, the strength of the health system in general, and the friendly working/learning environment inspired me to make the move to Pittsburgh.  I have not since regretted that decision!

Professional Interests/Future Goals:

Currently my professional interests are varied, but I am most interested in critical care. I am interested in pursuing a PGY2 specialty residency, and would ultimately love to teach at a college of pharmacy.
