How many residents will be admitted into the AGH residency program? |

We offer 5 positions for the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program (PGY1), 1 position for the Critical Care Specialty Residency Program (PGY2) and 1 position for the Hematology-Oncology Specialty Residency Program (PGY2). |

The pharmacy practice residency was first accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 1980. |

Where are former residents practicing now? |
| A. |
Graduates of our Residency Program have been very successful and well-prepared for an array of clinical practice positions, including specialty residencies, clinical specialist positions, faculty appointments, pharmacy administration, research fellowships, and industry. |

| A. |
Experienced pharmacists provide advanced clinical services in a variety of areas, including: critical care, infectious diseases, drug information, internal medicine, hematology/oncology, cardiology, ambulatory care, pharmacokinetics, and transplantation. |

What rotations are required to complete your program? |
| A. |
The PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency monthly rotations include: Cardiology, Critical Care (2 months; MICU + Trauma or Surgical ICU), Drug Information, Hematology-Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Practice Management and 3 electives. Longitudinal rotations include: Ambulatory Care, Direct Patient Care/Practice Management, Pharmacokinetics, and Staffing. |

The PGY2 Critical Care Residency provides the following required rotations: Medical ICU (2 months), Trauma (2 months), Coronary ICU (2 months), Infectious Diseases, Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU, and Neurosurgery/Neurology ICU. Longitudinal rotation: Pharmacokinetics.

The PGY2 Hematology-Oncology Residency rotations include: Medical Oncology-Inpatient (2 months), Medical Oncology-Outpatient (2 months), Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant, Infectious Diseases, Nutrition, and Research. Longitudinal rotation: Pharmacokinetics. |

What elective rotations are available? |

Elective rotations offered to residents include: ambulatory care, cardiothoracic surgical intensive care, emergency medicine, neurosurgery/neurology intensive care, neonatal/pediatric intensive care, nutrition support, practice management, psychiatry, and transplantation. |

What teaching opportunities are available for residents? |
| A. |
Residents will gain experience in presenting formal lectures through our Resident Seminar series and ACPE-accredited Department inservices. Through the variety of clinical rotations offered, residents will have opportunities to present multiple inservices to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals. |

Affiliations with Duquesne University and University of Pittsburgh Schools of Pharmacy facilitate resident experience in mentoring students. Finally, the Residency Program affords opportunities for platform and poster presentations at local and national meetings. |

What types of presentations are required? |

The following presentations are required for the Residency Program: Seminar, Journal Club, Research Project Proposal, platform presentation for Eastern States Conference, and a Pharmacist CE Program. |

Is staffing required? |
| A. |
Residents are required to staff four shifts per month (every other weekend). |

What meetings are the residents expected to attend? |
| A. |
Residents are expected to attend the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting and the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors (Baltimore, MD). |

What research opportunities are available for residents? |
| A. |
Residents are required to complete a research project. After selection of an appropriate topic, residents work with a Research Project Mentor to facilitate project development.

PGY1 annual stipend - $33,000 |

How many days off are residents provided? |
| A. |
The resident is provided 10 paid days off, which includes vacation, personal, and sick time. This is in addition to days off for professional meetings. |

How many holidays do residents work? |
| A. |
The resident is required to work three holidays per year. When the residents works a holiday, another day off will be granted.

Do residents receive support to attend professional meetings? |
| A. |
The Residency Program provides time off with pay, airfare or auto expense, lodging, stipend for meals, and registration to attend professional meetings.

Is insurance available? |
| A. |
Residents are entitled to full employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance.

What resources are available to the residents? |
| A. |
Residents have full privileges to the Health Science Library, photocopying, and other Departmental and AGH resources available to full-time employees

Is office space available? |
| A. |
Residents have dedicated office space with a personal desk, computer, and phone. Additional office resources are also provided, including: printer, file cabinets, and references.

Do residents have parking privileges? |

Residents are entitled to free on-site parking in the Hemlock Street Garage. |
