Allegheny General Hospital is host to an
extensive array of research initiatives geared to converting theory to
clinical success.
Allegheny-Singer Research Institute (ASRI) is a non-profit, independent research institute and a member of the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS). Located at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), ASRI is responsible for managing and conducting clinical and translational research based at AGH. ASRI manages the sponsored awards made to AGH and its related entities. Interdisciplinary research centers include Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease Research, the Center for Neurosciences Research, the Center for Genomic Sciences, the the Allegheny Cancer Center; as well as ongoing research in the departments of Anesthesiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Psychiatry. ASRI also holds site agreements with several federally-funded cooperative groups including ACOSOG, ACRIN, NCCTG, RTOG, and SWOG. National funding sources include the American Cancer Society, the Department of Education, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the American Heart Association, the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, the National Eye Institute, the National Institute of Justice, the National Science Foundation, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the National Library of Medicine. We're also home to the international headquarters of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the largest breast cancer research study in the United States. In addition, we have teaching affiliations with the schools of medicine of Temple University and Drexel University College of Medicine. |
