The Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Residency Director's Statement

Emergency Medicine is one of the most exciting and dynamic medical specialties. Both the demands and rewards are great. At Allegheny General Hospital, a very strong attending staff is enthusiastically committed to our Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program which began in 1982. Our state of the art facility has a great mix of pathology that is representative of both urban and suburban communities. Allegheny General Hospital is a level one Trauma Center and is a leader in advancing Emergency Medicine-- we've had ultrasound for over a decade. Our residents make excellent colleagues. Our graduates are practicing in both academic and community settings throughout the country. We also have a Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Residency Training Program that began in 1990. This unique program covers both fields in depth while providing a mini-fellowship for focused study in an area of interest.

A challenging curriculum and experience promotes clinical excellence in Emergency Medicine. In addition, a strong and varied EMS experience provides many opportunities. Although our primary goal is to develop excellent Emergency Medicine clinicians, our expanding research opportunities can lay the groundwork for an academic career. Our program prepares you for all walks of Emergency Medicine life.
