Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Unit
The primary goal of Canonsburg General Hospital’s Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation 16- Bed Unit is to optimize patient function and safety after a disabling injury or condition. Patients receive at lease three hours of therapies each day, focusing on activities of daily living, functional mobility, strengthening, and communication.
An individualized treatment program is developed for each patient based on a comprehensive evaluation at the time of admission. Depending on his or her needs, a patients’ treatment team may consist of a physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, rehabilitation nurse, nutritionist, a social worker and psychologist.
Canonsburg General Hospital’s acute inpatient rehabilitation unit features:
- Private rooms
- Designated area for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy
- Medical direction by board-certified physiatrist
- 24-hour nursing care
- Dietary services by a registered dietitian
- Pharmaceutical services by a registered-in-house pharmacist
- USDMR Credentialed Facility
- Activity program under the direction of a certified therapeutic activity director
- Discharge planning
- Level II Emergency Department available 24 hours a day
- Availability of Wii to assist with the patient’s individualized rehabilitation program
Patients referred to our Rehabilitation Unit should meet the following criteria:
- Have the expectation of functional improvement through intensive rehabilitation service within a reasonable period of time.
- Are at high risk of potential medical instability.
- Require regular direct individual contact with rehabilitation physicians.
- Have multiple and/or complex rehabilitation nursing needs with a potential for needing high acuity nursing care.
- Receive a daily minimum of three hours of therapy at least five days per week.
- Have education and training opportunities for themselves and their families on an ongoing basis.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Services
The mission of the outpatient rehabilitation program is to facilitate the return of patients to their highest level of function following a disabling injury or condition as quickly and safely as possible. Our licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists have years of experience and many specialize in a specific area of treatment.

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Department offers convenient hours, including evening appointments. Canonsburg General Hospital accepts most insurance plans. Appointments can by made by calling 724-745-3919.
The hospital provides free transportation through the Medivan Service for patients who are unable to drive. Transportation arrangements can be made by calling 724-745-6911.
