Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship
Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship
The Allegheny General Hospital Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship is a one-year program, from August 1 through July 31, and accepts up to two fellows per year. Under the direction of Daniel T. Altman, MD, and Gregory T. Altman, M.D., they work with the resident on the service and almost exclusively with the traumatologists on staff. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists encompasses specialists from orthopaedic trauma, plastic surgery, neuromuscular surgery, vascular surgery and radiology. We offer sophisticated diagnostic and treatment options for traumatic injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
Our surgeons treat mild to severe forms of orthopaedic trauma involving the pelvis, hip, acetabulum, and upper and lower extremities, as well as ligament and tendon tears, joint dislocations and soft tissue injuries. They also concentrate on the effective treatment of complications resulting from orthopaedic trauma–non-union fractures, crushed bone, multiple orthopaedic traumas, osteomyelitis and serious bone defects. In addition, specialists provide skeletal realignment and stabilization and post-traumatic reconstruction.
There is additional trauma experience with other attending faculty members through Joint Reconstruction and General Orthopaedics. The fellows also participate in the department's Morbidity and Mortality Conference each month and help with the daily Fracture Conference, as well as the monthly Trauma Conference.
