Vascular Neurology

The Department of Neurology of Allegheny General Hospital and the Drexel University College of Medicine invite applications for one-year vascular neurology fellowship training. The fellowship is approved by the ACGME for certification in Vascular Neurology. Applicants must be board eligible/certified in neurology with interest in stroke and vascular neurology. Successful applicants should demonstrate strong interest in clinical care, research and education. The fellowship will provide complete training in acute stroke therapy, stroke prevention, neurocritical care, stroke rehabilitation, and diagnostic modalities, including carotid and transcranial ultrasound. Training is supervised by three stroke neurologists who practice in a collegial atmosphere that blends the best aspects of excellent clinical care and research based upon interest and experience.

The Allegheny General Hospital Stroke Center is:

  1. Certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center since June 2006 with recertification as an Advanced Stroke Center in June 2008.

  2. Composed of three stroke neurologists, two interventional neuroradiologists and two cerebrovascular neurosurgeons.

  3. Complimented by a team of Neurology residents, stroke nurse practitioner, research nurse and administrative director.

  4. Enhanced by an 8-bed telemetry monitored stroke unit and a 23-bed neuro-intensive care unit.

  5. A tertiary referral center for all forms of stroke therapy, including intravenous thrombolysis, intra-arterial therapy, mechanical thombectomy and intracranial stenting.

  6. Actively participating in clinical and basic neuroscience research with NIH funding and currently enrolling patients into IMS-3 and IRIS clinical trials.
