Education

The primary goal of the Vascular Surgery Training Program at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is to prepare the resident/fellow to function as an independent and highly-competent practitioner of vascular surgery. We expect that each graduate will receive the added qualification or primary certificate in vascular surgery from the American Board of Surgery.  To meet this goal, the guidelines provided by the Residency Review Committee for General Surgery are followed.  In addition, the program is structured to meet the programs requirements of the American Board of Surgery. The residency provides the opportunity for trainees to learn in depth the fundamentals of basic science as applied to clinical vascular surgery.  Additional goals include the development of preoperative care, operative technical skills and judgment and postoperative care for vascular surgery patients.  At the end of the training program, the graduate will be proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the arterial, venous, and lymphatic circulatory systems.
