Program Overview
Our General Practice Residency (GPR) Program in dentistry is a 12-month program that provides postdoctoral didactic and clinical experiences at Allegheny General Hospital, a large urban Level I trauma facility. The experience of providing sophisticated dental care in a hospital setting serves to enhance the resident’s education and to provide community service.
The program prepares residents to meet the oral health needs of patients, including those who are medically or mentally compromised.
All of the ADA-recognized specialties are represented in the program, which provides a broad training experience. Supervised clinical experience is provided in general dentistry, including restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, pedodontics, and periodontics. In addition, residents' experiences are augmented by rotations through general internal medicine, medical oncology, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, radiation oncology, cardiology and nephrology/hypertension services.
A copy of the Allegheny General Hospital Blood Borne and Infectious Diseases Policy will be provided upon request.
