Curriculum
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing a structured educational environment for residents through a comprehensive series of conferences and didactic lectures. This formal curriculum consists of lectures from Department and Hospital faculty covering a comprehensive list of topics in OB/GYN as well as primary and preventive care. The lecture schedule includes 3 hours of “blocked” lectures every Friday, during which time residents are free from all clinical responsibilities. Topics include the following:

- Urogynecology and pelvic support disorders
- Benign gynecology
- Outpatient medicine
- Primary and preventive care
- Reproductive endocrinology and infertility
- Breast disease
- Operative gynecology
- Genetics
- Pathology
- Medical ethics and jurisprudence
- Adolescent care
- Epidemiology and statistics
The curriculum is designed to repeat every 2 years.
In addition to the didactic lectures, hands-on training courses with life-like models are available through our simulation center. Our simulation curriculum includes the following courses:
- Hemorrhage
- Basic maneuvers for vaginal delivery
- Fourth degree laceration repair
- Normal labor and delivery
- Shoulder dystocia
- Office gynecological procedures
- Central venous catheter placement
- Impaired physician
