Educational Goals/Objectives
Our residency program provides a structured educational environment that educates our residents along the 6 core competencies as outlined by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as follows:

- Interpersonal and communication skills
- System-based practice
The overall residency training goals include the following:
- To achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology
- To become compassionate, ethical and valuable members of our society
- To prepare for the pursuit of sub-specialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Oncology, Urogynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility as well as advanced laparoscopic surgery
- To attain competence in ambulatory primary health care for women
- To provide increased responsibility, appropriate supervision, formal instruction, and critical evaluation
- To serve as a teacher for those students or more junior residents and students placed under his/her supervision
- To participate in departmental committee and administrative work
- To obtain knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, medical-legal issues, and practice management
- To learn how to function as a consultant and essential component of the greater healthcare team
- To develop the skills necessary to critically review the medical literature
- To learn the basics of data collection, statistics, and study design through required research participation
- To acquire the knowledge necessary to pass the written and oral board exams of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology
- To prepare residents to independently manage ambulatory patients, perform basic and complex gynecologic procedures, and care for patients with both conventional and challenging obstetrical and gynecological needs
