Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program Overview
Our Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program strives to teach each resident to become a compassionate and ethical physician as well as a provider of excellent primary care for women. Residents are given increasing levels of responsibility, appropriate supervision, formal instruction, comprehensive didactic program, and critical evaluation throughout their training in order to achieve program goals and elicit the best from each individual.
Highlights of our program include:
- A four-year accredited residency program sponsored by the Allegheny General Hospital - Western Pennsylvania Hospital Medical Education Consortium, with five residents approved for each level of training
- Competitive salaries, benefits, and housing with 24-hour support services
- Consistent above-average volume statistics for most OB/GYN procedures
- A large and culturally diverse population; more than 4500 deliveries and more than 4000 surgeries are performed annually at our training sites
- Modern and updated Labor & Delivery and Postpartum (LDRP) suites, each including hardwood floors, central computerized monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, baths with shower as well as sleeper chairs
- A new multidisciplinary Pelvic Floor Center involving Colorectal Surgery, Urology and Urogynecology
- An expanded Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Division, and a full-time urogynecologist performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- A Maternal Fetal Medicine Division with five specialists and one Reproductive Geneticist with multiple 3D/4D ultrasounds and advanced fetal testing services
- Extensive gynecological oncology training
- Separate rotations in outpatient medicine clinics, emergency medicine, anesthesia and genetics
- An extensive simulation training program
- One-month elective
- A dedicated full-time and voluntary faculty and a supportive administration
- Faculty actively involved in research / well-published in peer review journals
