Lectures

Agh LecturesAttendance at lectures is mandatory except in the event of an emergency. All residents are expected to participate in conferences from 6 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. daily (except on Tuesday, when conference runs until 8:30 a.m.). This begins with fracture conference daily from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. Specialty conferences follow.

There is an updated schedule of conferences available to residents on a monthly basis. Topics are made available to residents at least one full week in advance to allow time for necessary reading. The conference schedule varies slightly from week to week, but typically includes lectures on Trauma, Tumor or Basic Science on Mondays, Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality, Spine, Foot and Ankle, or research conference on Tuesdays, Sports or Pediatrics on Wednesdays, Joint Reconstruction on Thursdays and Hand and Upper-Extremity on Fridays.

Regular conferences run from September through May. The conference schedule in July and August is made up of the summer lecture series. This is a comprehensive lecture series aimed at reviewing the basics of the orthopaedic history & physical exam, x-rays, anatomy, and basic operative skills. Methods of teaching include didactic lecture, sawbones, cadaver dissection, arthroscopy lab, and visiting professor seminars in anatomy and tumor.

Agh LecturesResidents are responsible for Grand Rounds each Tuesday unless there is a visiting professor. Two cases will be presented as time permits. The first case should be one that would incite in-depth discussion. The second case should be a brief presentation of an interesting problem.

Morbidity and mortality conference occurs on one Tuesday every month preceding grand rounds. The resident involved in the initial case is responsible for presenting the complication.

Journal Club occurs on a monthly basis and is specialty specific.
