This course will provide EMS personnel with various patient care scenarios using high fidelity patient simulators. Participants will take part in various pre-hospital scenarios based on ACLS, PALS, BCLS and the PA Department of Health EMS Protocols. Scenarios will encourage development of critical thinking skills, as well as provide simulation experience in core ALS and BLS skills within the provider’s scope of practice. Students will be debriefed using video and audio recordings made during scenarios. This course is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for 2 hours continuing education credit in the medical/trauma category.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be introduced to simulation-based education
  • Participants will review the capabilities and limitations of simulators
  • Participants will utilize patient assessment skills while participating in multiple patient scenarios
  • Participants will practice skills consistent with the PA scope of practice to include: IV insertion, medication administration, defibrillation, intubation, thoracic decompression and cricothyrotomy
  • Participants will review scenario performance identifying key aspects of the encounter

Expected Outcomes

  • Participants will function effectively in adult resuscitation simulations covering multiple algorhythms in both ALS and BLS roles
  • Participants will function effectively in neonatal and pediatric resuscitation simulations covering multiple algorhythms in both ALS and BLS roles

  • Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics

Con-Ed

This course is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for 2 hours continuing education credit in the medical/trauma category.
