The LifeFlight Education Series is a compilation of the following three courses, which are designed to teach the LifeFlight nurse important airway management, birthing, and life-support skills:
- Advanced/Difficult Airway Simulation
- Birthing Simulation
- Prehospital Life Support Renewal Course
Advanced/Difficult Airway Simulation
During this course, the Laerdal SimMan will be utilized to simulate difficult airway scenarios. The LifeFlight nurse will demonstrate ventilation/intubation of SimMan exhibiting signs and symptoms of trismus and spinal inflexibility.
Upon completion of this course, the LifeFlight nurse should be able to do the following:
- Recognize obstructions to easy intubation
- Utilize Rapid Sequence Induction (R.S.I.) to successfully intubate SimMan
Birthing Simulation
During this course, the Gaumard Birthing Noelle will be utilized to simulate the birthing process. The LifeFlight nurse will:
- Recognize when a delivery is imminent and when to use specific supplies
- Demonstrate an understanding of primary and secondary survey
- Perform emergency life-saving treatment in a systemic manner
Upon completion of this course, the LifeFlight nurse should be able to:
- Identify the stages of labor
- Establish priorities in precipitous situations
- Respond to evidence of maternal pain/distress
- Safely perform a vertex vaginal delivery
Prehospital Life Support Renewal Course
This course is designed to provide the prehospital care provider with knowledge to achieve the following objectives:
- Demonstrate an understanding of mechanism of injury
- Demonstrate an understanding of primary and secondary injury
- Perform emergency life-saving treatment in a systemic manner
Upon completion of this course, the LifeFlight nurse will be able to:
- Identifying specific injuries as determined from the verbalized MOI
- Performing appropriate immobilization of the mannikin
- Adequately perform trauma ABCs
