NSG 203 - Adults in Crisis

Nursing 203: Adults in Crisis focuses on the application of the nursing process in the care of adults with acute and chronic stressors that are serious threats to system stability. Major mental illnesses, drug and alcohol abuse/addiction, disorders of liver and pancreas, trauma, and burns are featured content. Primary clinical experiences are provided in an adult and geriatric mental health unit and the emergency department.

Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate ability to transfer theoretical concepts to practice.
- Apply concepts of critical thinking in the application of the nursing process to facilitate the adult toward a state of system stability.
- Utilize principles of therapeutic communication.
- Function as a contributing member of the interdisciplinary team.
Expected Outcomes
At the completion of this course, the nursing student should be able to do the following:
- State rationales for the nursing interventions.
- Implement safe and effective care throughout the nursing process.
- Satisfactorily prepare patient for procedures and care.
- Report patient information in a concise and timely manner to the appropriate health care team member.
