Education
Assessing Vital Signs Accurately

WPH/IUP School of Respiratory Care
The Assessing Vital Signs Accurately course provides the participant with the opportunity to practice assessing vital signs: blood pressure, heart/pulse rate and regularity, and respiratory rate. Accuracy will be an important goal during assessment of each of these vital signs. Also, the participant will have the opportunity to review the common breath sounds (normal/vesicular, wheezes, rhonchi, stridor, crackles) and the corresponding noise created. Participants will be able to practice auscultatory skills while identifying the correct anatomic location of these breath sounds.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will accurately determine heart rate/pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.
- Participants will accurately identify normal and/or adventitious breath sounds and affected lung fields.
Audience
- Respiratory therapy students
