EKG Interpretation Review

This four-hour course is designed for staff nurses and EKG technicians to review the basic concepts of cardiac electrophysiology and EKG assessment and interpretation. Students will review pertinent medical terminology and then learn various techniques to differentiate cardiac rhythm strips. Students will have the opportunity to practice and perfect these methods in a virtual hospital setting during small group exercises with user-friendly EKG generators. This course is a continuing education activity that was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, for 3.5 contact hours for nurses.
Learning Objectives
- Explain basic cardiac electrophysiology
- Demonstrate proper measurement of rhythm strips
- Identify and differentiate rhythm strips from the various pacemaker sites throughout the heart
- Interpret EKGs during simulated activities
Expected Outcomes
- Interpret rhythms originating from various pacemaker sites within the heart
- Demonstrate rhythm recognition skills
- Earn an 80% or higher on the posttest
