The Comprehensive Emergency Nursing Course is a six-day workshop designed to provide the emergency room nurse with knowledge and skill practice in a myriad of disease complications and injury anomalies.  In addition, topics focusing on vascular access placement and complications, drug calculations and administration, and basic work flow management are addressed.  The six-day schedule consists of the following:

Day One

• Introduction to Emergency Nursing
• Legal and Regulatory Issues
• Emergency Survey, Priority Setting, and Patient Assessment
• Drug Calculations- Adult and Pediatric

Day Two

• Vascular Access – Placement, complications, A-lines, CVPs
• Ventilator Settings and Alarms

Day Three

• Respiratory Emergencies
• Cardiovascular Emergencies
• Mega codes

Day Four

• Shock Emergencies
• Endocrine Emergencies
• Neurological Emergencies
• Genitourinary Emergencies
• Hematology and Oncology Emergencies

Day Five

• Gastrointestinal Emergencies
• Trauma
• Ocular, Dental, and Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Emergencies

Day 6

• Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Toxicology
• Evidence, Abuse, and Violence
• Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergencies
• Orthopedic Emergencies

Expected Outcomes:

Upon completion of the six-day course, the participant will be able to apply the concepts of physical assessment, triage, and prioritization in order to facilitate proper work flow management.  In addition, the participant will gain confidence in determining the patient’s main concern and providing the appropriate interventions.
