Certified Nurse Aide Program

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Program offered at the STAR Center is a Pennsylvania State Department of Education approved program that provides students with the education needed to serve as effective CNAs. CNAs assist nurses and physicians by providing patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities with basic care. CNAs are often responsible for applying clean dressings, feeding patients, answering patient call signals, changing bed linens, cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms and communicating and documenting patient feelings, behavior, and/or symptoms. Students will learn these skills in this 124.5 hour 6-week program through didactic theory teaching (40 hours), simulation lab (29.5 hours), and clinical experiences (55 hours). The classroom and lab components take place at the STAR Center while the clinical experiences occur at Highland Park Care Center. Students are required to have their own transportation to both sites and to arrive on time. Students must adhere to the attendance policy and are required to make-up any classroom, lab or clinical time that is missed.

Upon completing the course, students will be prepared to take the PA state certification exam, which they take at the STAR Center. This course is open to all members of the general public 18 years of age and older who possess a high school diploma or GED. For more information or to obtain an application packet, please call 412.578.4470 or email simulation@wpahs.org.
