Medical students, residents and fellows planning to study at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital often ask about housing options in the area. The Hospital is located between Friendship and Liberty avenues and Millvale and Mathilda avenues in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh, a pleasant residential neighborhood with rental units at reasonable rates. Surrounding and nearby neighborhoods in the East End of Pittsburgh include East Liberty, Highland Park, Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill. Squirrel Hill has a very active business and shopping hub and is within two miles of several Pittsburgh universities, attracting many university students, faculty and other professionals.
