The Western Pennsylvania Hospital - Forbes Regional Campus is Redefining Community Medicine

Investing in the Future of Forbes

More than 30 years ago, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital - Forbes Regional Campus made a promise to residents of Pennsylvania’s eastern Allegheny and western Westmoreland counties. We promised they would no longer need to travel outside their community to receive the quality health care they required. We promised that we would provide superior care with a focus on family—close to home. It’s a promise we’ve taken seriously.

The Ed Dardanell Heart and Vascular Center debuted with a new program called Redefining Chronic CARE.  The goal of this program is to redefine health care with the desired outcomes of optimal patient safety, reduced repeat and prolonged care, optimal recovery time to get back to productivity, patient satisfaction and prolonged life.  The Highmark Foundation recently awarded the Foundation a $262,500 grant for this program that creates and empowers a culture of patient-focused problem solvers by developing a process-oriented environment of proactive, not reactive, care.  This program is under the direction of Dr. Michael H. Culig.

Forbes Capital Campaign Projects

This campaign has resulted in better service to the region with more advanced services.  As a result of the more than $10+ million that was raised, more lives will be saved and the residents of this region will receive the care they need in their own community.

The Ed Dardanell Heart and Vascular Center –

Meeting Underserved Heart Care Needs

A recent study concluded that the West Penn - Forbes service area has a high incidence of heart disease and an underserved cardiovascular population.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, surpassing stroke, chronic lung disease, accidents and all forms of cancer.  For patients in the midst of a cardiac crisis, immediate intervention is critical to their survival and long-term prognosis.  The new Ed Dardanell Heart and Vascular Center includes new operating rooms, new cardiac catheterization facilities, and a new surgical intensive care unit that enable doctors to perform advanced procedures that save lives and allow us to provide better care.  A most generous contribution of $1 million from Mr. Ed Dardanell, an original member of the Forbes Health Foundation Board of Directors, launched the Capital Campaing which raised $10+ million for the Center.
