Forbes Leads Pennsylvania in Heart Failure Treatment
Forbes is the only accreditied Chest Pain Center in southwestern Pennsylvania. In a recent Federal study of heart failure death rates, Forbes scored as the only hospital in Pennsylvania to have better-than-average results when compared to 4,453 hospitals nationwide. Only 38 hospitals nationwide were included in this elite group. The Hospital treats more than 700 patients with heart failure each year, and its aggressive and timely management of the condition contributed to its better-than-average score. Treatment measures include providing smoking cessation counseling to patients, performing tests that show how the heart is pumping, and prescribing appropriate medications that are beneficial to patients with decreased function in the left side of the heart.
