Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Advance for Physicians Assistants: PA climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro for a cause

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Jessica Lazar, a physician assistant at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, is preparing to scale great heights to raise awareness of pulmonary hypertension, a disease that affects the heart and lungs of approximately 100,000 Americans.

In the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Lazar is cited as one of three health care professionals trekking to the 19,000-foot summit of Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro in February. So far the climbers have received $47,953 in donations and hope to raise $100,000 total for research to treat pulmonary hypertension. If the climbers can surpass $50,000, drug-maker Actelion has committed to matching it with another $50,000, according to the article.
