February Classes Offered at Destination Wellness

Natrona Heights, Pa., - The following classes are available to the public at Destination Wellness located at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills:

Highmark® Personal Nutrition Coaching
This program empowers the individual to sustain healthy lifestyle changes by assisting with setting goals, better food selection and meal planning. This one-on-one counseling session is facilitated by a registered dietitian and is designed to address the nutritional changes needed to manage heart disease, diabetes, weight management and other health related issues. Sessions are by appointment only. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this program and a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call

Highmark® Clear the Air: Tobacco Cessation
Your health is worth one more try. This one-session, two-hour program is the step you take BEFORE deciding to quit tobacco. This program helps you to identify your reasons for quitting and gives you the tools you need to quit for good. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this program and a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call for your one-on-one session with a trained smoking cessation instructor at 724-274-5202.

Heartsaver AED/CPR
5 - 9 p.m.
This course includes adult, child and infant CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage. Relief of choking in the adult, child and infant victim also included. A course completion card valid for two years will be given after skills and written testing. Fee: $35 (student manual included). Call to register at 724-274-5202. Space is limited.
Thursdays, February 3 through April 7
Highmark® Drop 10 In 10 SM
6 p.m.
Drop 10 in 10 is an innovative weight management program designed to help participants lose 10 pounds (or 10 percent) of their body weight through an engaging program of optimal nutrition, regular exercise and behavior change. The program includes a combination of educational lectures, experiential activities, self-study, self motivating and personal goal setting. Drop 10 in 10 is designed to help individuals move away from the “all or nothing” mentality of fad dieting to the philosophy of making meaningful and long-lasting nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes. This program is free for Highmark members and a nominal fee for non-members. The 10-week series runs through Thursday, April 7. To register call 724-274-5202.

AARP Driver’s Safety two-day course
10 a.m - 2 p.m. both days
Tune up your driving skills and learn how to adjust to age-related driving changes. Participants will learn how to obtain insurance discounts for attending this course. *Participants must attend both days. Fee: $12 for AARP members; $14 for non-members. Call to register at 724-274-5202.

Understanding Anticoagulants & Vitamin K
6 p.m.
Join AKMC pharmacist, Jane Holmes, Pharm D for a program to help you understand the relationship between anticoagulants, such as Coumadin and Warfarin, and Vitamin K in order to reduce the chance of complications. Hypertension & Heart Disease
6 p.m.
Join John Balacko, MD from Tri-County Cardiology as he reviews the role hypertension plays in heart disease. Participants will learn how to prevent or treat hypertension, otherwise known as high blood pressure, and how it can lead to serious heart problems if left untreated. RLS Support Group
6:15 – 7:45 p.m.
Up to 10 percent of the population in the United States is living with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) – a disruptive neurological disorder that results in an irresistible urge to move the legs. Seek local support and find help in dealing with RLS or help make a difference for others living with Restless Legs Syndrome. BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR

If you are a healthcare provider this is the class for you! It includes adult, child and infant CPR. Two-rescuer scenarios with bag valve mask, foreign body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation (AED). Certification card - valid for two years, will be provided to participants after completion of skills and written testing. Fee: $50 (required student manual included). Highmark’s® Discover Relaxation Within I ClassSM
6 p.m.
A four-week, 1½ hour class series designed for participants to acquire comprehensive knowledge and optimal benefits of the various stress management practices and techniques. Upon completion, participants recognize stress and its origins, have a number of tools and techniques to combat daily stress, and understand how to incorporate stress management techniques into daily life. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this class; a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call to register at 724-274-5202.

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR RENEWAL
5 - 8 p.m.
If you have a current course completion card for a healthcare provider CPR class in the last two years, you can take the renewal course. You must present your current card the day of class. This class covers the information in the healthcare provider class in an abbreviated format. Upon course completion, participants receive a card valid for two years. Fee: $30/student (includes required student manual). Call to register at

Women’s Health: Taking Care of You lunch & learn
2 p.m.
It’s important for women of all ages to practice prevention and live their lives in healthy, positive ways. Join us for a wellness workshop, Women’s Health: Taking Care of You, to discover how women can take care of themselves (and those they love) by knowing what they need and when to get it. Joslin Diabetes Center’s Self-Management Education two-day evening series
5 - 8 p.m. both days
This comprehensive program is designed for individuals with diabetes who are interested in learning how to manage their diabetes, prevent complications, eat healthfully and control blood sugar levels. There are two classes in this series that occur once for two consecutive weeks. *Participants must attend both classes. Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
6 – 9 p.m.
This class is recommended for expectant parents who have decided to breastfeed or who are considering breastfeeding as their feeding choice. A board-certified lactation consultant will answer your questions and provide you with useful information about breastfeeding. Topics include the benefits of breast milk, establishing a milk supply, positioning the baby, proper latch-on, preventing problems and returning to work. Expectant fathers are welcome. Alzheimer’s Support Group
7 p.m.
This monthly support group provides caregivers with valuable information when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.
