Allegheny Sports Medicine Unveils Newly Branded PGA TOUR Sports Medicine Trailer

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Allegheny Sports Medicine, a division of the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Institute, unveiled a newly branded mobile sports medicine trailer during an event at the Pittsburgh Convention Center this morning that featured PGA TOUR member and Pennsylvania native Jim Furyk, who lived in Uniontown as a youth. The trailers are part of a four-year agreement with the PGA TOUR that designates Allegheny Sports Medicine, a leader in orthopedic care and rehabilitation services, as the “Official Sports Medicine Sponsor” of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour.

“These trailers have been equipped with the most up-to-date and highest quality technology that is available in the sports medicine world,” said Patrick J. DeMeo, MD, chairman of the WPAHS Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Institute. “We are pleased that Allegheny Sports Medicine’s commitment to providing the highest level of sports medicine care will be more widely recognized by sports enthusiasts all over the country.”

The trailer on display, one of four that have been wrapped and branded with Allegheny Sports Medicine’s logo, features state-of-the-art fitness and therapeutic equipment that is available to professional golfers at more than 70 PGA TOUR and Champions Tour tournaments across the country in 2012. The facilities are staffed by professional physical therapists, chiropractors and athletic trainers who assist players in rehabilitative and preventive care, as well as personal conditioning programs.

"Health and Fitness are a major focus for PGA TOUR and Champions Tour players and we are excited to have Allegheny Sports Medicine as the primary sponsor of the Mobile Health and Fitness Program," said Tom Wade, Chief Marketing Officer at the PGA TOUR. "With Allegheny Sports Medicine's support, we hope to continue to evolve the level of care provided to the players by utilizing the techniques used at their network of hospitals in Western Pennsylvania."

Allegheny Sports Medicine also announced that it is considering plans to build similar trailers with the goal of making them available to local high school and college athletic programs throughout the Pittsburgh area. The trailers would provide the opportunity for local student-athletes of Western Pennsylvania to have access to a top-notch mobile sports medicine and training facility.

“We should always be mindful of promoting the importance of training, proper conditioning, and living a healthy lifestyle to our communities,” said Furyk, the 2010 FedExCup champion and PGA TOUR Player of the Year. “I commend Allegheny Sports Medicine for taking its role as a community leader seriously by exploring the opportunity to make trailers like the pros use available to local student-athletes.”

The trailer will be housed at the Pittsburgh Convention Center through January 27, before leaving for the Champions Tour’s Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla., on February 2.
