Signing Ceremony Commemorates 25th Anniversary of Unique Partnership Between AGH and Northside Community

Friday, January 31st, 2014

PITTSBURGH (Jan. 30, 2014) Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Health Network and Northside community leaders celebrated the 25th anniversary of the AGH- Northside Partnership with a re-signing ceremony Jan. 30 at the George J. Magovern, MD, Conference Center at AGH.
In attendance along with local dignitaries and elected officials were executives of Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) and the Allegheny Health Network (AHN), representatives of the Northside Leadership Conference (NSLC), Northside Community Leaders, elected officials and the original signers to the Agreement from 25 years ago.
Twenty-five years ago, AGH and the 15 neighborhood groups that comprise the Northside Leadership Conference signed a groundbreaking, formal agreement that established the framework for a long-standing partnership.
The partnership’s mission is to enhance and promote the vitality, quality of life and image of the Northside community through neighborhood reinvestment and economic development, improved housing, education, employment, and health and wellness initiatives.   It is now one of the longest running official partnerships between a community and a major medical institution in the country.
Initiatives of the Partnership’s 25 years include:
·         Providing advocacy, technical assistance and support for Northside neighborhoods
·         Promoting Northside home buying to employees through home benefit programs
·         Promoting local purchasing through Northside Merchant Fairs on the AGH Campus
·         Hosting mentorship, career and workforce development programs for Northside residents, and maintaining a long-standing relationship with the Pgh. Public Schools
·        Improving Northside residents’ quality of life through targeted health programs relating to heart disease, diabetes, obesity and child safety.
·        Northside Health Improvement Partnership (NSHIP) - whose creation was led by AGH and NSLC, is a collaborative effort of community and not-for-profit health related organizations. The mission of NSHIP is to improve the health of all Northside residents. NSHIP was originally designated by the Pennsylvania State Department of Health as a State Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) and is now recognized as a member of the state’s Health Improvement Partnership Program (HIPP).
