Minimally Invasive Robotic Lung Cancer Surgery
Thoracic surgeons at Pittsburgh's Allegheny General Hospital are using the advanced da Vinci robotic surgical system to perform minimally invasive lung cancer surgery, offering new hope to patients with early stage lung cancer who may not be good candidates for a more invasive operation. West Penn Hospital to Offer Community Health and Wellness Classes

PITTSBURGH - West Penn Hospital is set to launch “West Penn Healthy for You” a series of free community health and wellness classes designed to help participants learn strategies can be put practice right away to help improve health and wellness at any age.
Participants will meet and learn from some of the hospital’s most talented physicians and subject matter experts on topics like controlling health threats, keeping your heart young, healthy eating strategies, advancements in the treatment of arthritis, nutrition during preconception and pregnancy, and more all in an informal setting.
Select classes will feature a healthy cooking demonstration by Mark Staley, Healthy Eating Specialist at Whole Foods, Pittsburgh.
January’s classes:
“Are you in the Driver’s Seat when it comes to Your Health?” presented by Jennifer Holst, MD, associate director, Joslin Diabetes Center, at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at West Penn Hospital. You control the biggest threats to your health, and Dr. Holst will share what you need to know to make 2013 a healthier year. Mark Staley, healthy eating specialist, Whole Foods Market, Pittsburgh, will present a healthy recipe demonstration.
“Jump Start Your Activity Plan for a Healthy New Year”, will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m., Jan. 15 at LA Fitness in Bakery Square, East Liberty. Dr. Holst will lead a discussion of the health benefits provided by various types of exercise and share tips to help you stay motivated.
