Canonsburg General Hospital Offers Classroom Driver Improvement Course for Veterans

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Canonsburg Hospital, in association with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), will offer a free driver safety program for all veterans.

The two day course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday November 16th and Thursday, November 17th in the Canonsburg Hospital McNary Conference Center.

AARP developed this eight-hour classroom course for drivers 55 years of age or older to improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. AARP is holding a special session to recognize and thank veterans for their dedication and commitment to service. Veterans include those individuals who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves or Coast Guard. A veteran need only to present a valid form of military identification such as military ID, discharge papers (DD Form 214), American Legion card, dependent ID, or Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) card to the instructor.

Spouses (including widows and widowers) are eligible to take the course, free of charge as long as proper forms of identification are presented.

If the veteran or spouse is over the age of 55 they may be entitled to a car insurance discount by completing the course. Questions regarding discounts should be directed to their car insurance agent.

A certified instructor recruited and trained by AARP, will conduct the course. His presentation includes a combination of videotapes and a group discussion.

To register, or for more information, call Physician Access at 1-877-284-2000.  Class size is limited to 30 people.
