Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

KDKA-TV: Local mother delivers rare identical triplets

Friday, October 9th, 2009

A new mother from Westmoreland County gave birth to rare identical triplets.

Amanda and Matthew Fair are both 30. Matthew, Nathan and Michael were born on September 30 on their parents' third wedding anniversary.

In the last three years, only three sets of identical triplets have been born at Allegheny General Hospital.

"They were conceived naturally. They call it spontaneous identical triplets – well, there's a medical term for it, so it's considered very rare," says Amanda Fair.

"It's the proverbial one in a million," Dr. Ronald Thomas, from AGH, said. "So it's somewhere between one in 400,000 and one in 2 million."
