Canonsburg General Hospital Sponsors Read-A-Thon

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The annual Canonsburg Hospital Read-a-Thon will run from March 15 through April 9 in the Chartiers-Houston School District. Elementary students are eligible to participate. For every book read, students collect pledges.
The student in each grade level who reads the most books receives a $25 gift card and a visit from Ronald McDonald. The five students who raise the most money in the school will be awarded the same prize. Students must collect a minimum of $10.00 to be eligible for an award. The winners will also be invited to march with the hospital float in the Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade.
The grand prize winner (the student who collects the most money in the school) will be the guest (along with three family members) at a Washington Wild Things baseball game and receive voucher coupons. All students who participate in the Read-A-Thon will receive a signed certificate of appreciation and a McDonald’s coupon.
All students who raise at least $25.00 will be eligible for a raffle for a $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Canonsburg Hospital will donate seven books to the school’s library, one per grade level.
"The Read-a-Thon is a great way for children to help children," said Kim Malinky, President/Chief Executive Officer. "We appreciate the support of the students and their families. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Canonsburg Hospital’s Project Healthy Children, a program that provides educational opportunities such as school-based health fairs, hospital tours with interactive stations, career mentoring, Safe Sitter classes and classroom health presentations to children throughout the community.”
