Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Allegheny Valley Hospital Offers Palliative Medicine Program

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Natrona Heights, Pa., - Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH) today announced it is now offering a Palliative Medicine program at the hospital in Harrison. Palliative medicine provides care and support to patients and families dealing with serious, progressive illnesses.
The program at AVH is under the medical directorship of Randy Hebert, MD, Division Director of Palliative Medicine and Hospice to the West Penn Allegheny Health System. The consultation service at AVH will be staffed by Rebecca Heinle, CRNP.
Palliative Medicine aims to assure that patients can remain as comfortable and active as possible through the stages of serious illness. The program offers expertise in treating pain and other symptoms of illness while providing emotional support for the patient and family. Palliative care recognizes and considers the unique circumstances and helps to focus care on the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs that are most important to the patient and his or her caregivers.
Palliative care services are appropriate for any patient with life-threatening illness who has poorly controlled symptoms, regardless of treatment status. Also appropriate are those patients and families who need extra support or help with end-of-life decision making.
Palliative Medicine is a service of the WPAHS which has expanded its care to AVH. Palliative Medicine is also available at Allegheny General Hospital, West Penn Hospital and Forbes Hospitals. Palliative Medicine services at AVH will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Consult requests or more information can be obtained by calling 412-398-0692.
