Birth of the Allegheny Health Network
Two weeks ago Highmark and the West Penn Allegheny Health System entered into an affiliation that established the Allegheny Health Network, a unique patient-centric integrated healthcare delivery network for the western Pennsylvania region. Dr. Tony Farah, Chief Medical Officer for the Network, and Dr. Blair Jobe, a former leading UPMC surgeon who recently joined the Network, were guests on KDKA-TV's Sunday Business Page with John Delano and talked about why the Network will set the standard for healthcare quality, service and affordability. West Penn Allegheny’s STAR Center Hosts Free, Walk-In Heartsaver CPR Classes All Day Saturday

Be a Valentine – Be a Heartsaver
The STAR (Simulation, Teaching and Academic Research) Center at West Penn Allegheny Health System, in conjunction with Community College of Allegheny County, is offering a day of free, walk-in Heartsaver CPR Classes Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Attendees will learn more about the dangers of sudden cardiac arrest and how they can help save the life of someone who is having a heart attack. STAR Center professionals and CCAC instructors will demonstrate the newest CPR techniques and the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED).
What: Free Heartsaver CPR classes, open to the public
When: Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classes will begin at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. No registration is necessary.
Where: STAR Center, West Penn Hospital School of Nursing, 4900 Friendship Ave., in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood
Why: An opportunity to learn skills that could be the difference between life and death in a cardiac emergency
