Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: West Penn Allegheny Health System weighs new name, services at Suburban

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

By Steve Twedt, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The West Penn Allegheny Health System is considering changing its name, and it is re-evaluating services at its Suburban Hospital facility in Bellevue.

Those possibilities were raised on Monday at town hall meetings presided over by WPAHS President and CEO Christopher Olivia with employees at Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital.

No timeline was mentioned for final decisions on either issue.

Spokesman Dan Laurent said WPAHS was considering the change "as part of our overall restructuring and reorganization." Once that is complete, he said, the region's second-largest health system "is going to look very different, and we're looking at whether a new name would be more suitable for the organization."

As for AGH Suburban, Mr. Laurent said, "We're exploring all possibilities out there, and no decisions have been made."
