April Classes Offered at Destination Wellness

Natrona Heights, Pa., - The following classes are available to the public at Destination Wellness located at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills:

April 2012

Highmark® Personal Nutrition Coaching
This program empowers the individual to sustain healthy lifestyle changes by assisting with setting goals, better food selection and meal planning. This one-on-one counseling session is facilitated by a registered dietitian and is designed to address the nutritional changes needed to manage heart disease, diabetes, weight management and other health related issues. Sessions are by appointment only. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this program; a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call 724.274.5202 today for appointment/details.

Highmark Senior Products® Informational Seminar
11:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 7
BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR RENEWAL
8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
If you have a current course completion card for a healthcare provider CPR class in the last two years, you can take the renewal course. You must present your current card the day of class. This class covers the information in the healthcare provider class in an abbreviated format. Upon course completion, participants receive a card valid for two years. Fee: $30/student (includes required student manual). Call to register at 724.274.5202. Space is limited. Maximum 8 attendees.

10 – 2 p.m.
Donate blood and save a life. With every four blood donations, you will receive a $25 gift certificate to a local business.

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR
1 – 6 p.m.
If you are a healthcare provider this is the class for you! It includes adult, child and infant CPR. Two-rescuer scenarios with bag valve mask, foreign body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation (AED). Certification card - valid for two years, will be provided to participants after completion of skills and written testing. Fee: $50 (required student manual included). Thursday/Friday, April 12 & 13
AARP Driver’s Safety Two Day Class
10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Tune up your driving skills and learn how to adjust to age-related driving changes. Also discover how to receive insurance discounts. Contact your insurance company for specific discounted rates. Fee: $12/person for AARP members; $14/person for non-members. Call to register at 724.274.5202. Maximum 20 attendees.

Saturday, April 14
Joslin Diabetes Center’s Self Management Education one-day class
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
This comprehensive program is designed for individuals with diabetes who are interested in learning how to manage their diabetes, prevent complications, eat healthfully and control blood sugar levels. This class covers the same information as in the two-day class. Check with your insurance carrier to determine your coverage for diabetes educational services. Mondays, April 16 and 23
Joslin Diabetes Center’s Self Management Education two-day evening series
5 – 8 p.m. both days
This comprehensive program is designed for individuals with diabetes who are interested in learning how to manage their diabetes, prevent complications, eat healthfully and control blood sugar levels. There are two classes in this series that occur once for two consecutive weeks. *Participants must attend both classes. Tuesday, April 17 (part I) & Thursday, April 19 (Part II)
Heartsaver First Aid with AED/CPR
5 – 8 p.m. both days
This is now a two-part class. Part one, the first aid course, includes basic first aid; part two includes adult, child, and infant CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage. A certification card given after completion of skills and written testing and is valid for two years. Fee: $35 per part (required student manual included). To receive the $50 discounted price, you must attend both parts. Call to register at 724.274.5202. Space is limited. Maximum 8 attendees.

Wednesday, April 18
Blood Drive
10 – 2 p.m.

Heartsaver AED/CPR

This course includes adult, child and infant CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage. Relief of choking in the adult, child and infant victim also included. Wednesday, April 25
Alzheimer’s Support Group
7 – 8 p.m.
This monthly support group provides caregivers with valuable information when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. Maximum 50 attendees.

7th Annual Allegheny Valley Hospital Health Fair
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Join us on the journey to better health!
