Forbes Regional Surgeon Leads Local Chapter of American College of Surgeons

MONROEVILLE - James T. McCormick, DO, FACS, Vice Chair, Chief of Surgery at Forbes Hospital, has been elected Secretary of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. McCormick has been associated with West Penn Allegheny Health System since 1998, serving in various high-level capacities including Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at West Penn Hospital and Assistant Professor at Temple University School of Medicine Clinical Campus at West Penn.

A graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. McCormick served his general surgical residency at West Penn Hospital and a residency in colon/rectal surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Parkland/Presbyterian Hospitals, Dallas. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Founded in 1913, the American College of Surgeons is an educational and scientific organization established to raise the standards of surgical practice and improve the care of the surgical patient. The College is dedicated to the ethical and competent practice of surgery. Its achievements have significantly influenced the course of scientific surgery in America and have established it as an important advocate for all surgical patients.

Fellows of the College are organized into state or regional chapters, through which the College exerts its local influence. There are 65 chapters in the United States, two in Canada, and 33 throughout the rest of the world.
