Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute to Honor Rich Walsh and Family for Helping Improve the Lives of Hematological Cancer Patients and Their Families

The Thomas J. Walsh Memorial Golf Outing, “Teeing Off for T,” has raised more than $87,000 in four years, allowing West Penn Hospital unit to add sofa beds, TVs and other comforts for blood cancer/bone marrow transplant patients
What: Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute honors WPXI-TV reporter Rich Walsh, Greg Walsh and Blasé Santoriello for their work organizing the “Teeing Off for T” golf outing. “Teeing Off for T” honors the memory of Thomas Walsh, who passed away Feb. 3, 2009, of complications of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). 
This year’s tournament is set for July 20 at Rolling Fields Golf Club. Info: 412.578.4893.

Where: Floor T7, West Penn Hospital, 4800 Friendship Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood.
Why: WPCI is one of only two bone marrow transplant programs in the city of Pittsburgh and accounts for nearly 900 admissions annually, performing an average of 80 transplants. The program is a member of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, offering patients access to the nation’s most up-to-date clinical trials.
