KDKA-TV: Lower Burrell Couple Parents Of Identical Triplets

Monday, March 29th, 2010

One in a million is pretty rare, but how about one in two million?

Those are the odds of having identical triplets and it has happened right here in Pittsburgh.

Already parents of a toddler, Jill and Derek Coury of Lower Burrell were pregnant without fertility treatment. They found out three more children were coming on their 11-week ultrasound.

"It was just, 'Oh my goodness,' and then, 'Oh wow, how are we going to do this?', and then, 'Oh what a blessing.' You just run the gamut of emotions when you're not expecting it," describes mom Jill.

Dad had practical concerns

"Where are we gonna put them all?" Derek wondered.

The triplets were born on Feb. 4 at almost 32 weeks gestation - eight weeks shy of the typical 40-week length of a pregnancy.

The girls spent six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at West Penn Hospital and now one week at the Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center on heart monitors still, but all drinking from bottles.
