Allegheny General Hospital Events To Celebrate Organ Donor Awareness in April

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is planning various activities in April to celebrate national Donor Awareness Month.

On April 11, 2012 at 12:30 pm, transplant recipients, together with representatives from AGH’s transplant program and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) will host a program in the hospital’s Snyder Auditorium focusing on organ donation and how it affects lives. No RSVP is required to attend.

On April 30, 2012 at 1 pm, the hospital will hold its 3rd annual Rose Bush Dedication Ceremony to honor those who have graciously saved others through the gift of organ donation. AGH transplant recipients will dedicate a rose bush that will be planted in the hospital’s donor rose garden. The ceremony is open to everyone and will take place in the Magovern Auditorium and include refreshments.

A transplant recipient parade will also take place at AGH on April 30, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Transplant recipients will travel throughout the hospital visiting units and patient floors to celebrate the Gift of Life and thank the many dedicated healthcare professionals who make transplantation possible.

Finally, Allegheny General Transplant Services and the Gerald McGinnis Cardiovascular Institute will also be hosting donation tables every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the month of April from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, with the exception on April 11th and April 26th. These tables will be located outside the cafeteria on the 2nd floor of the hospital and will provide employees and visitors with information about organ donation and how to become an organ donor.
