AGH Events Celebrate National Donate Life Month

Friday, April 12th, 2013

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is celebrating National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation.

AGH is planning the following Donate Life Month activities and events over the next two weeks:

• On Friday, April 19, AGH will participate in the first National Donate Life Blue and Green Day. Hospital employees are encouraged to wear blue and green colored clothing that day in memory and appreciation of organ donors. Employees who participate by wearing those colors are invited to be part of a group photograph that will take place at noon in the Magovern Conference Center Reception Area.

• A transplant recipient parade will take place at AGH on Monday, April 29, from 10 am – 12 pm. Transplant recipients will travel throughout the hospital visiting units and patient floors to celebrate the Gift of Life and thank the many dedicated healthcare professionals who make transplantation possible.

• On Monday, April 29, from 1 – 3 pm, the hospital will hold its 6th annual Rose Bush Dedication Ceremony to honor those who have graciously saved others through organ donation. AGH transplant recipients will dedicate a rose bush for planting in the hospital’s donor rose garden. KDKA-Television’s Bob Pompeani will serve as MC of the ceremony and lead a number of speakers whose lives are dedicated to organ donation and transplantation. The ceremony is open to everyone and will take place in the Magovern Conference Center Reception Area. Refreshments will be served following the program.

• Representatives from AGH’s Division of Transplantation Services and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) are hosting National Donate Life tables on Wednesday, April 17, Thursday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 24 from 11 am – 2 pm. These tables will be located outside the cafeteria on the 2nd floor of the hospital and will provide employees and visitors with information about organ donation and how to become an organ donor.
