May classes offered at Destination Wellness

Natrona Heights, Pa., - The following classes are available to the public at Destination Wellness located at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills:

Highmark® Personal Nutrition Coaching
This program empowers the individual to sustain healthy lifestyle changes by assisting with setting goals, better food selection and meal planning. This one-on-one counseling session is facilitated by a registered dietitian and is designed to address the nutritional changes needed to manage heart disease, diabetes, weight management and other health related issues. Sessions are by appointment only. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this program; a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call 724-274-5202 today for appointment/details.

Highmark® Clear the Air: Smoking Cessation
Your health is worth one more try. This one-session, two-hour program is the step you take BEFORE deciding to quit tobacco. This program helps you to identify your reasons for quitting and gives you the tools you need to quit for good. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this program; a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call for your one-on-one session with a trained smoking cessation instructor at 724-274-5202.

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR RENEWAL
5 – 8 p.m.
If you have a current course completion card for a healthcare provider CPR class in the last two years, you can take the renewal course. You must present your current card the day of class. This class covers the information in the healthcare provider class in an abbreviated format. Upon course completion, participants receive a card valid for two years. Fee: $30/student (includes required student manual). Call to register at

Highmark Senior Products® informational seminar
1 p.m.
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield offers a variety of health plans for individuals with Medicare. Their Medicare Solutions expert can help you find the right plan to fit your needs. Call to reserve your space at 724-274-5202.

Family & Friends CPR
2 – 4:30 p.m.
Family & Friends CPR was developed by the American Heart Association to teach the basics of CPR to people with limited or no medical training. Family & Friends CPR does not provide a certification card; however, it does provide you with all the steps necessary to save a loved one should the need ever arise. Fee: $10/student (price includes student book that has a reference card to tear out and keep in your wallet). Call to register at 724-274-5202.

Wednesday, May 4
Prenatal Breastfeeding
6 – 9 p.m.
This class is recommended for expectant parents who have decided to breastfeed or who are considering breastfeeding as their feeding choice. A board-certified lactation consultant will answer your questions and provide you with useful information about breastfeeding. Topics include the benefits of breast milk, establishing a milk supply, positioning the baby, proper latch-on, preventing problems and returning to work. Expectant fathers are welcome. Highmark® Discover Relaxation Within I series begins
6 p.m.
A four-week, 1 ½ hour class series designed for participants to acquire comprehensive knowledge and optimal benefits of the various stress management practices and techniques. Upon completion, participants recognize stress and its origins, have a number of tools and techniques to combat daily stress and understand how to incorporate stress management techniques into daily life. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate in this class; a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call to register at 724-274-5202.

Blood Drive
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Donate blood and save a life. With every four blood donations, you will receive a $25 gift certificate to a local business.

Joslin Diabetes Center’s Self Management Education one-day class
10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This comprehensive program is designed for individuals with diabetes who are interested in learning how to manage their diabetes, prevent complications, eat healthfully and control blood sugar levels. This class covers the same information as in the two-day class. Check with your insurance carrier to determine your coverage for diabetes educational services. Osteoporosis Medications
2 p.m.
Are you currently taking medications for osteoporosis, or are planning to start them? Do you have questions? Have your questions answered by joining pharmacist, Heather Goetze from Alle-Kiski Medical Center for a presentation dedicated to the ins and outs of osteoporosis medications. What Is Sleep Apnea?

Is your spouse keeping you awake by snoring? Sleep apnea could be the cause. Learn the signs, symptoms and treatment options for sleep apnea by joining two of our experts, Bob Butler from the Sleep Lab at Alle-Kiski Medical Center, and neurologist, Elliot Michel, MD from Valley Neurology, Inc., in Tarentum. Look Good…Feel Better
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
A Look Good…Feel Better free workshop is an opportunity to meet other women who are facing appearance-related side effects from their cancer treatment. Come share in this positive experience and learn ways to cope with hair loss and special techniques in make-up application – both taught by licensed cosmetologists. Joslin Diabetes Center’s Self Management Education two-day evening series
5 – 8 p.m.
This comprehensive program is designed for individuals with diabetes who are interested in learning how to manage their diabetes, prevent complications, eat healthfully and control blood sugar levels. There are two classes in this series that occur once for two consecutive weeks. *Participants must attend both classes. AARP Driver’s Safety one-day course
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Tune up your driving skills and learn how to adjust to age-related driving changes. Participants will learn how to obtain insurance discounts for attending this course. * You must have taken the two-day class in the past three years to qualify for this one-day course. Fee: $12 per person for AARP members; $14 for non-members. Registration required by calling 724-274-5202.

Safe Sitter® babysitting course
1 – 5:30 p.m. both days
This two-day class provides children ages 11-13 with essential skills in safe sitting and handling emergencies. Fee: $50/student. Registration required by calling 724-274-5202.

Wednesday, May 25
Baby Care Basics one-day option
6 – 9 p.m.
During this class, parents-to-be will be taught about infant feeding, circumcision, selecting a pediatrician, newborn behavior and soothing techniques. Parents will also receive “hands on” practice of basic baby care skills using baby dolls. Class fee is $50 per couple. Registration is required by calling 412-578-7271.

Alzheimer’s Support Group
7 p.m.
This monthly support group provides caregivers with valuable information when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.

Saturday, May 28
Heartsaver AED/CPR
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This course includes adult, child and infant CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage. Relief of choking in the adult, child and infant victim also included. A course completion card valid for two years will be given after skills and written testing. Fee: $35 (student manual included). Call to register at 724-274-5202. Space is limited.

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR
2 – 7 p.m.
If you are a healthcare provider this is the class for you! It includes adult, child and infant CPR. Two-rescuer scenarios with bag valve mask, foreign body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation (AED). Certification card - valid for two years, will be provided to participants after completion of skills and written testing. Fee: $50 (required student manual included). Heartsaver First Aid with AED/CPR
5 – 10 p.m.
The first aid course includes basic first aid, adult, child, and infant CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage.
