Michael J. Sirott Named Deputy General Counsel for West Penn Allegheny Health System

Michael J. Sirott has been appointed Deputy General Counsel for the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS). Sirott joined West Penn Allegheny in July, 2011, and previously served as the System’s Associate General Counsel.

In his new role, Sirott will provide legal counsel and oversight relative to the System’s real estate and facilities management initiatives, information technology, corporate contracting, compliance, finance, corporate and media communications, clinical services and external affiliations. He will also assist with matters related to the planned affiliation between West Penn Allegheny and Highmark.

Sirott has more than 20 years of in-house legal and compliance experience with hospital systems. Prior to joining WPAHS, Sirott served as the Associate General Counsel of West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, West Virginia, and as the Interim Vice President of Legal Services of the hospital’s parent organization, West Virginia United Health System.

He worked at the former St. Francis Health System, Pittsburgh Mercy Health System and Shadyside Hospital. He started his career as an associate attorney with the law firm of Nash & Company, P.C.

A member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the West Virginia Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the American Corporate Counsel Association and the Beard Center for Leadership in Ethics at Duquesne University, Sirott earned his J.D. degree from the George Washington University National Law Center and has a B.S. in economics from Penn State University.
