Forbes Hospice Plans Temporary Relocation to West Penn Hospital

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Forbes Hospice officials announced today that their Oakland facility will be temporarily relocated to West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield in June while a new permanent location is selected and renovated.

Forbes Hospice will remain open and fully operational at its current Oakland site through May and the staff is committed to providing continuous, high level care to patients and their families during the transition.

“Knowing how much our patients and their families rely on our support, our intention is to offer no break in service during this transition, ” said Maryanne Fello, Director, Forbes Hospice.

“This temporary move will enable Forbes Hospice to take time in selecting a permanent site and renovating it to meet the unique needs of our families coping with the end of life,” Fello said.

Forbes Hospice is the oldest and most trusted non-profit hospice and palliative care program in the Pittsburgh region, providing state-of-the-art care to preserve dignity in the last stages of life and participating in research to advance the delivery of care for the terminally ill.

Hospice’s interim location will have many of the amenities that patients and their families have come to know from the current Oakland facility. The temporary West Penn Hospital site will feature 12 private patient rooms, each with their own shower. For their comfort and convenience, family members will continue to have access to a living room, kitchen, and meditation room.

Family members will also receive complimentary parking in West Penn Hospital’s parking complex, located on the corner of Liberty and South Millvale avenues. The Hospice location on the West Penn Campus, wing T8, is easily accessible from West Penn’s Millvale Avenue entrance.

Forbes Hospice Home Care and Palliative Home Care will operate on the same campus, ensuring the continuity of care valued by many hospice patients and their families.

Since 1979, Forbes Hospice has provided patients, families and caregivers with valuable education, support and resources and created a comfortable and peaceful environment in which patients may live each day to the fullest. After a loss, Forbes Hospice’s Bereavement Program provides spiritual and psychological support for families.
