Thursday, April 4th, 2013

PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) Auxiliary “Fly Me to the Moon” gala is set for Saturday, April 6 at the Westin Convention Center, with a goal of helping raise funds for a new dedicated epilepsy unit at the hospital.
Highmark, McKinsey and Company, and Jack Wilberger, MD, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at West Penn Allegheny Health System, have signed on as platinum level gala sponsors, said Auxiliary President Andrea Joubert.  More than 350 attendees are expected to enjoy a night packed with glamour and surprises, traveling back to a time when “cool” was king and the “Rat Pack” ruled the strip.
Emmy Award Winner Jimmy Sapienza with his larger-than-life personality and swagger promises to entertain with a show worthy of the classiest night clubs and Vegas showrooms. Guests will also have the opportunity to test Lady Luck with after dinner games of chance and , the ever popular silent auction guarantees to have plenty of exciting and enticing items to bid on.
The beneficiary of this year’s Gala is the AGH Department of Neurology, which is in the process of designing a state-of-the-art inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the hospital.
Brandon Marinacci of Scott Township, a patient of Dr. Wilberger and James Valeriano, MD, Chair of AGH’s Department of Neurology and Director of its Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, will be honored at the Gala. Marinacci, who underwent surgery at AGH in 2007 that put his epilepsy in complete remission, agreed to share his story at the event to help raise money for the epilepsy unit.
Gala co-chairs are Gabrielle Blythe and Robin Trombetta. Honorary committee members are Ann and Frank Cahouet, Drs. Tony and Katie Farah, Judy Zedreck Gonzales and Dr. Alex Gonzales, Jack and Judy Isherwood, Mrs. Joubert, Dr. James and Mrs. Gloria Valeriano, Roger and Kaye Wiegand, and Dr. Jack and Mrs. Diane Wilberger.
