AGH Walk on Saturday To Raise Heart Disease Awareness, Funds for Research

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Who: Allegheny General Hospital (AGH)

What: Annual James A. Magovern, MD, Hearts in the Park Walk. Two mile walk event also includes Prescription for a Healthy Heart Expo. Free to all registered walkers, the expo offers free blood pressure screenings, relaxing chair massages and healthy lifestyle education. Children’s activities will be held throughout the course of the walk as well.

Where: Allegheny Commons in West Park, directly across from AGH on East North Avenue.

When: Saturday, May 14, 2011, from 8:30 am until 11:30 am. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will address walkers at 9 am to begin the festivities.

Why: Hearts in the Park was established to raise awareness about heart disease and funds for cardiovascular disease research. It is estimated that more than 12 million Americans suffer from heart disease and it is the leading killer of men and women both. A portion of the even proceeds are allocated to the Allegheny Commons Master Plan, which is dedicated to helping restore and beautify the park.
