Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

WTAE-TV: Bellevue Hospital Closing ER, Admissions

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus near Pittsburgh will close its emergency room and stop admitting patients in 90 days.

The hospital, part of the West Penn Allegheny Health System, will still offer outpatient radiology, laboratory, dialysis and imaging services. An urgent care center will replace the emergency room.

The 106-year-old hospital is in Bellevue, just west of the city, and has about 275 full-time employees, but it wasn't immediately clear how many will be affected.

West Penn officials say the hospital's inpatient volume was dropping and nearly 90 percent of its emergency cases could be treated at an urgent care facility.

West Penn will turn over the inpatient beds to LifeCare, a company that already has 41 long-care beds at the facility.
