West Penn Allegheny Names New Executive Vice President For Hospital Operations

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

West Penn Allegheny Health System announced today that Dianne Dismukes has been appointed Executive Vice President For Hospital Operations, effective immediately.

In this role, Dismukes will lead all hospital and outpatient care operations for WPAHS, including direct oversight of its five hospitals. She will report directly to Christopher Olivia, MD, WPAHS President and Chief Executive Officer.

Over the past several months, Dismukes has served as the Partner in charge of the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting engagement with WPAHS supporting the urban consolidation of Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital.  During that time, she has also supported patient throughput redesign, labor and productivity and volume growth initiatives.

“We are very excited to have Dianne join our executive leadership team. Her immense health care experience and keen understanding of our health system’s dynamics and the challenges before us makes her makes her uniquely qualified for this critical role,” Dr. Olivia said.

Ms. Dismukes has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare operations, strategic planning, mergers and acquisition, quality and cost improvement, non-labor redesign, and technology enablement.

Prior to joining West Penn Allegheny, she led the operational, clinical and non-labor operational improvement practices at PricewaterhouseCoopers US Healthcare Advisory Practice. At PwC, Dismukes used her vast clinical and operational expertise to work with boards, physicians and administrators of large governmental hospitals, academic medical centers, and for-profit healthcare providers.

“Dianne has a proven ability to develop and manage cohesive teams and has guided many organizations through complex change processes. As our efforts to transform West Penn Allegheny into a more efficient and effective organization continue, her experience will be an invaluable asset to our team,” Dr. Olivia said.

While at PwC, Dismukes assisted the Minister of Health of the State of Qatar through a strategic redesign of that country’s healthcare governing body and helped the country’s premier healthcare system achieve Joint Commission International accreditation. On the heels of that success, she led the planning of the Sidra Medical and Research Center in partnership with the Doha Foundation and Weill Cornell Medical College.

Prior to joining PwC, Dismukes held a number of positions in the healthcare sector, including VP of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. In these capacities, she worked with teams building solutions which positively impacted patient care delivery, patient and staff satisfaction, quality and cost.

Dismukes received her associate degree of Nursing from Kilgore College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas and her Master of Business Administration from Baylor University. She is a frequent speaker on clinical, quality and non-labor performance improvement and recently presented “Preparing for JCI Accreditation” to the Arab Health Conference.
