Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Allegheny General Hospital to enroll patients in heart pump clinical trial

Allegheny General Hospital will become one of several sites in the United States to enroll patients in a clinical trial of a device to treat patients with congestive heart failure who are waiting for a heart transplant.

The DuraHeart left-ventricular assist device is a small pump that is surgically implanted to help maintain the pumping capacity of the heart. It sits in the upper part of the patient's abdomen.
