Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

WTAE-TV: Soldier watches wife give birth from Iraq

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Having a baby is a joyful moment a mom and dad share together, but for one couple that wasn't going to be possible until a local hospital stepped in and made this miracle come true for a dad watching on a webcam from Iraq.

Roxanne Allenbaugh desperately wanted her husband with her for the delivery of their first child, Gemma, and doctors at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville tried to bring the soldier home from Iraq to be there. They soon learned that was not going to be possible. Instead, they brought his baby’s birth to him.

Justin Allenbaugh was in the operating room watching his daughter’s birth, listening to her cries, and encouraging his wife Roxanne all while serving in Iraq. He saw his daughter for the first time via webcam.

“It felt like he was here, even though he wasn’t. They would move him with me so he got to move everywhere around the room. He just kept reassuring me that everything would be OK and he was right there on the computer,” Roxanne said.
